Cypress Island is responsible for my interest in boating. That is to say, Cypress Island has cost me a lot of money.
When we lived in Anacortes, I would sit on our deck at look at Cypress across the Guemes Channel. “I’ll never know what’s on that island”, I said to myself, “unless I own a boat.”
We decided to overnight at Eagle Harbor for old times sake, and take one of the several walks ashore.
Did leprechauns paint this old stump green?Another abandoned donkey. This one shows how the engine powered the wench. This is Duck Lake. “Where are the ducks?”, asked Mary Anne. “Preparing to once again thump the Huskies at football”, I replied. This was once a cabin on the edge of Duck Lake. They had a great location; flat, fertile land, fresh water, maybe fish in the lake. Bald eagles nest here. The trail is closed during the season. There’s a small anchorage just north of Eagle Harbor called Pelican Beach. There are five buoys and camping facilities.An individual or collective effort? Who can say. I like the arrangement of pretty pebbles.
I like the pebbles, too.
I am also struck by how dry it looks in that shot of Mary Anne hiking. Let is all hope for no lightning strikes.
