I’ve spent most of my time since we returned from Scottsdale working on Étude. There’s always a lot to do to get her ready for the cruising season. Most is cleaning and maintenance; you’d be amazed at the number of shells birds drop over the winter. They fly high, then let go, hoping the shell will crack open and they can eat whatever’s inside. It usually works. This year, I decided to add solar panels. This lets us stay at anchor in lonely places without having to run the diesel-powered generator. I’m sure Trump would have rather I installed a small coal-fired power plant.

After long days scrubbing, or toiling down in the engine room, there hasn’t been a lot of opportunity to do anything blog-worthy. But I have taken a few photos, snapshots really, that I’d like to share.

Solar Étude: 850 watts of sun-supplied power.
A garden decoration gift from Kiwi friends Miriam and Richard: a Fantail.
Fellow diners at Seattle’s Pizzeria La Rocca do unsuspected advertising.
I’ve seen plenty of Little Free Libraries, but…
In Springtime, even annoying weeds are pretty.
Before we left Scottsdale, we drove across town (30 miles each way!) to have stew, soda bread, and a Guinness at The Irish Wolfhound pub.
Look carefully at the shape of this tree trunk. It becomes weirdly flattened as it bends before finally figuring out that it’s supposed to be round – and grow UP.
You don’t see moss like this in Arizona!
As Clint Eastwood said, “A car’s gotta know its limitations.”
