I can hear you saying, “Steve, all this pseudo-arty photography is fine, but what’s going on at the Octopus Islands shack full of boater junk?”

Good news, my long-suffering friends. You’re about to find out.

To reiterate: the Octopus Islands are a group clustered around Waiatt Bay on Quadra Island. It’s a large anchorage, conveniently located along the route north to the Broughtons and Alaska.

At some point, boaters decided to mark their passing by leaving driftwood tokens in an abandoned cabin. New works appear every season and old contributions are flushed.

Let’s see what’s changed since our visit two years ago.

Fame is fleeting. Lovingly-crafted tokens from previous years wind up here. I wonder who decides?

I spotted this colorful, but deceased, little fellow on the way back to the Zephyr.

I was just saying to the houseplants “when’s Steve going to update us on that treasure trove and interior decorating source on Octopus Island??” And, “will any crabs have died nearby?”

Sooo many ideas for for the home!

Curator probably Robinson Crusoe or his man Friday? Tonto? Robin?

Happy 4th of July! Love, MEB
