Pinnacle Peak

Pinnacle Peak is one of the best nearby hikes. We haven’t been there for fifteen years.

That was a mistake because it’s a well-maintained, rock-free trail. It’s also a decent workout with 1,100 feet of elevation gain over 4.5 miles.

The trail is out-and-back, climbing from one residential area and descending steeply into another. At that point, there’s nought to do but admire the attractive, expensive gate that keeps the rest of us out. Then back we go to our starting point.

A seasonal bonus: a scary skeleton greeted us at the trailhead.

Note the steps and smooth walking surface. These are rarities to be treasured.
This view is typical of hikes near the suburban boundary: nature and intertwined housing.
This spikey hilltop in silhouette caught my eye.
The photo doesn’t do the rock justice. Maybe if you zoom in you can appreciate it’s interesting composition. Better: come and see for yourself.
They’re not kidding. The trail fell to the valley floor like an elevator.
The aforementioned neighborhood gate. Pretty nice, eh?
A rather nice red fishhook cactus welcomed us back to our starting point.

Bonus

A Great-tailed Grackle

They’re not crow-smart, but are clever and social. If you drop an outdoor crumb, you’ll meet plenty.
