To Vashon Island

To Vashon Island

Anyone with a map may reasonably question why we chose to travel to Vashon Island via Poulsbo. Two words: cheap diesel.

We slept at anchor in Liberty Bay and were treated to the view of Mt. Rainer you see above.

Our route the next morning took us south along the western side of Bainbridge and through Rich Passage. From there we passed Blake Island and followed Colvos Passage along Vashon Island’s western side. Colvos is weird. The current almost always flows north on both rising and falling tides.

We got this view of the Seattle skyline as we exited the eastern end of Rich Passage.
Someone’s Vashon dream house (“dream pagoda”?) ended badly.
As did this person’s cruise.
Another nice view of “The Mountain”, as locals call Mt. Rainier, when we rounded the southern tip of Vashon.
Look what was waiting as we turned into Quartermaster Harbor. Fortunately, at anchor.
Boats that have come to a bad end at Dockton. One…
…two.
Dockton, once a major shipbuilding center, has some cool old buildings. Some attractively rundown…
…some nicely maintained.

Never get tired of gazing at “The Mountain.”

The owners of the beached boat aptly named her Temptation…. maybe the beach should be named Siren. How did Temptation get beached? Will high tide rescue her?? I’m a landlubber and my only knowledge of boating come from reading The Curve of Time and Moby Dick. And your adventures on Etude.

The best pic on this one is the cover photo.
