Cactus Flowers at Last

Cactus Flowers at Last

We always enjoy returning to the Desert Botanical Garden. There’s something new to see every time; sometimes art, sometimes butterflies, sometimes flowers. Although we aren’t at Peak Cactus Flower yet, there were enough blooms to inspire a pair of blog posts. Maybe you’ll see more in a week or two.

In the mean time, I had a chance to do more macro photography. Practice, practice, practice.

Full disclosure: not every flowering plant in these photos is a cactus. But who can resist a pretty flower?

Someday these little nubs will be flowers.
Cacti are not big on symmetry.
The Ocatillo says, “Look, I can grow leaves!”

This labyrinth, made of cloth banners, is intended to promote climate change awareness. A worthy goal, to be sure. Too bad that maybe forty percent of visitors don’t believe climate change is a thing.

Lovely. The juxtaposition of alluring blossoms and spikey defenses reminds me of high school girls growing up in Montana. Another of Nature’s repeating patterns.

Ok, Michael. That comment made me laugh out loud.

Love the succulents. We had quite a few at our house in California. Still have a few here. Leah’s green thumb even works with low moisture plants. I like the new format of your cover page by the way. Saves lazy people like me the trouble of organizing your photos.
