Dublinwalk II

Dublinwalk II

The weather had cleared by the time we left The Cobblestone, so we decided to walk back along the river and through the popular Temple Bar area.

That’s the Ha’penny Bridge, below. Back in the day, only the rich could afford to pay to shorten their journey by avoiding a long walk to the next bridge.

This was once a soap factory. Business must have been good because they commissioned this tilework to tell the story of how soap is made.

Our taxi driver, who told the tale, called the tiles “toils.”

Seattle has Pioneer Square, Nashville has Broadway Street, Dublin has Temple Bar. All can be fun to visit and interesting to look at, but those seeking good food or fair prices might want to look elsewhere.

Am envious. Would never have thought of “toils”.
