Vashon Island

Vashon Island

In the yachting world, there’s something called reciprocal moorage. If you belong to a yacht club, you can sometimes stay for free at an affiliated club for a day or two. We rarely do this because reciprocal space is usually limited to one or two slips, and some other cheapskate has already claimed it.

But we got lucky at Quartermaster Yacht Club on Vashon. Very lucky. Not only are the facilities first rate and the people friendly, there is a store and a coffee stand nearby, and a pleasant forest walk.

The QYC clubhouse is onshore in the background. They held a sailing camp for little kids this week.
Notice the odd blobs at the top of the training sailboat masts behind Étude? They’re floats. When the kids turn their boats over, which they do frequently, the float keeps the boat on its side rather than turning completely upside down.
A ten minute walk away, Burton village is tiny, but cute.
We took a four mile walk from the marina that included a loop through this park.
It wouldn’t be a proper blog post without at least one flower photo!

Thank you for the quick visit to Vashon—Maury Island, which I haven’t visited since 2010!
Remember the Thanksgiving we spent with “Aunt Rosie ” and Uncle Bob a decade before that??
And Burton! So cute! Thanks for the memories! 🎶🤓😘
