Cars On The Block

“You haven’t been to Barrett-Jackson?!”

We’ve heard this a lot. But no more, because today we hoofed it over to Westworld to take in this Woodstock of automobilia.

Barrett-Jackson holds auto auctions every year in Scottsdale and a number of other places. People who pay attention to this kind of thing tell me that B-J is not particularly high-end. While it’s true that most of the cars were American, and many of those were Corvettes or Mustangs, there were some that could sell for over a million dollars.

This is the development “mule” for the Ford GT. Note rough panels, wires sticking out the side, and so on.
Were there trucks? Oh yes, there were trucks!
This is a 1954 Corvette. I had the opportunity to buy one in the early 70s for $3000. That was a lot of money and, frankly, the very early Vettes were nothing special: poorly finished, mediocre inline six cylinder engine. This one looks a lot better than new.
The mediocre engine.
A Packard hood ornament.
I thought it would be period-correct to photograph this early grey Cobra in monochrome.

if you think I’ve showed you a lot of cars, think again. We saw hundreds, and we never visited the dozen other tents scattered around the grounds. And there’s more than cars. Way more. Some things, like the beautifully-restored fuel pumps might be expected. But there were also saunas, yard art, jewelers, massage chairs, clothing, pinball machines, and a lot of overpriced food and drink.

For your Man Cave.
For your private exotic car garage.

All of the Barrett-Jackson photos were taken on my iPhone using the Leica Lux app.

Wow! That looks like a whole day event! I’m surprised you don’t have one of those beauties yourself. One of those trucks would be fun to drive even if I couldn’t own one.

Any Austin Healey 3000’s catch your eye?

Was not aware of this show. Spectacular. If you haven’t already, you should send this post to Bruce K.
