Gig Harbor and Home

Gig Harbor and Home

it’s always fun to rendezvous with Denny and Diane, fellow Bainbridge residents and owners of our beloved Fiona Bean. The fun was magnified by the Gig Harbor location. It’s an attractive, entertaining harbor.

It’s a good thing that we were only together for one night, as we ate and drank like college students.

What do I mean by that? We started mid-afternoon with a visit to an ice cream shop. This was followed immediately by a Mexican place for Margaritas. Then, off to Étude to sit up top in the sunshine and drink wine. Oops! Time to head to the Italian restaurant for dinner and… more wine.

Fifty years ago, this kind of thing could be done night-to-night-to-night. Now, not so much.

But enough about that. Here are a few photos of things I found interesting in Gig Harbor and on our overnight stay at anchor off Blake Island.

Arabella’s Marina, where we tied up for the night.
I’ve never seen a Coke cooler like this one. Spotted at the very excellent Suzanne’s Bakery.
Fiona Bean on the Gig Harbor public dock.

We spotted this old workboat converted to a pleasure craft while doing the 4.5 mile walk around Blake Island.
We were not the only ones anchored off Blake on this beautiful Saturday.
The Olympic Mountains silhouetteed in the sunset.

I wonder if there is an etiquette with respect to a previously owned vessels name. Do boaters generally stay with the original name or change to their own liking?

Michael

The Coka Cola cooler in Suzanne’s Bakery is cute but what really caught my eye was the old oak ice box sitting next to the Coke cooler which probably predates the cooler by a half century. We had an ice box that looks just like Suzanne’s when I was growing up in the wilds of Montana. Of course, by then we also had an electric refrigerator and the old ice box was moved to the basement. Suzanne’s ice box looks well cared for. Wonder if it is still functional? Thanks for reawakening that memory.

My eyes fell instantly onto Bread, the Box,
Perched on top of the Cooler of Coke.
Now I know what “bigger than a BB” clocks;
And, should it contain bread, might be called bespoke!
Love, MEB
